Well... It seems I am still bad at this blogging thing and keeping up with is. Maybe I'm just not into this techy thing. I really don't like how people are tied to their computers and phones, and sometimes I do make a physical effort to withdraw from the temptations of being connected 24/7. However, I frequently do get caught up. And that's when life gets stressful, and I feel rushed all the time, and I have way to many things in my schedule, and my eyes start to hurt from looking at all these screens! And in the midst of all the chaos, which is typical of our America lifestyle, I find an article like this: http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/28/magazine/the-island-where-people-forget-to-die.html?pagewanted=all&_r=1& , which explains the clear benefits of living a simple and laid-back lifestyle. Now, is this possible in America? No... probably will never be... especially while I am the 'social media' coordinator for my company. Nor while I live 30 minutes (driving) away from my work. Or while my Greek mother thinks I'm becoming 'anorexic' (which should never be used lightly) whenever I say 'I'll just have vegetables", or "I don't want any meat today". But, I'm sure in some ways, I can control this and make tiny steps toward this lifestyle. To live simply, laugh loudly, and enjoy any opportunities/events to their fullest.
There are a few things that I can say keep my life on the simpler side (and more enjoyable), and I am proud to say I live this way:
1. I do not own a personal smart phone. Yes, my company does supply me with one for 'business purposes' and I do have my personal email and facebook connected to it, but I do not carry it with me everywhere! Nor am I joined at the hip to it!
2. I love reading during my lunch break. I find that in the middle of a crazy, tech-filled day, its best to move away from the computer desk and zone into another world and ease your mind from work.
3. I enjoy the outdoors. Though I don't go out as often as I do, I am not afraid to say yes to biking, hiking, walking, running, etc. This is something I hope to do more in the future.
4. I have been very good at not letting other people and their actions get to me. I am proud that I have learned to kick drama and dramatic people out of my life. If you do not make me happy, or do not add anything to my life, I do not need you. I am great at analyzing this early in a relationship (thank you to all those previous idiots for building my thicker skin) and this has allowed me to think of myself.
Thankfully, I can say that I've made a few steps toward this just this week!
- Just on Monday, I opted to go to my local Garden Center (Watson's in Timonium), buy two lovely pumpkins, and instead of spending the evening on the couch, watching TV (which is unfortunately the only way to spend time with my mother :/ ), I sat at the dining room table and painted my tinier pumpkin! I hope to post a picture soon!
- Then, today (just two days later!) I deleted my newly-made Twitter account! I started my account in order to learn Twitter before I start a Company Twitter. I don't like it. I don't get it and keeping up with it just to understand what people like about it or what they are doing did not add anything to my life. So DELETE!
Looking forward to my next step!
